Cristiano Ronaldo’s birthday, Declan Rice warning, Pochettino PSG exit, FA Cup failure
Good morning Man Utd fans
Man United were sensationally knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough during a tense penalty shootout.
The two teams drew 1-1 in regulation time and neither team managed to score a winner in extra time of the fourth-round clash.
And Boro caused one of the biggest upsets of the tournament in a tense penalty shootout when United star Anthony Elanga missed his penalty during the sudden-death stage of the penalty shootout.
The game was not without controversy, however, as Boro leveled United’s early 1-0 lead with the help of a spectacular handball.
United players, staff and fans couldn’t believe the goal was left standing – especially after a VAR review.
United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo also missed a rare penalty in the first half, to the dismay of several fans, who blasted the Portuguese ace on social media.
Ronaldo’s costly mistake also resulted in Man United target Declan Rice choking on his words after the West Ham ace picked Ronaldo against his rival Lionel Messi in the age-old GOAT debate.
Rice told Gary Neville on Sky Sport’s Overlap show: “”[I’m] I have to say Ronaldo – 100 percent Ronaldo.
“The penalties he took in big moments, Champions League finals, tournaments. For big events, I would go 100 percent with CR7.”
During the game, Red Devil owners The Glazers also felt the wrath of United fans when a technical glitch meant fans were unable to buy refreshments at half-time.
The announcement was met with a chorus of boos from all four sides of Old Trafford, clearly picked up by pitchside TV microphones.
And then the Red Devils stalwarts broke out into a familiar chant that lashed out at the unpopular owners.
Meanwhile, Flamengo bosses have reportedly flown in to England to try and finalize the permanent signing of Andreas Pereira from United.
The Brazilian side have an option to make the deal permanent for £17m.
But club vice-president Marcos Braz has confirmed they want to get him cheaper.
Braz, along with other top flamengo players, flew to England today to try and negotiate a deal.
Finally, United are reportedly planning a “big investment” in Barcelona ace Ronald Araujo.
So says Marca, who report that United are leading the transfer race for Araujo, who has also attracted interest from other Premier League sides.
The Red Devils are seriously considering a deal for the centre-back, aware of their interest in him.
