GoTranscript – Review 2022 – PCMag Germany
In the huge market of online transcription services, GoTranscript is unusual. Many services offer automated and human transcriptions in English, but GoTranscript has only focused on human transcriptions and offers them in different languages. This excellent service has also carved a niche for itself by offering transcriptions for areas with specialized terminology such as: B. the areas of law, education and medicine.
When considering a transcription service, the cheapest isn’t always the best option. Inexpensive AI-generated transcripts can leave users with hours of edits once the document is ready, defeating the convenience of outsourcing the job. With GoTranscript you may have to wait longer for the finished product (although there is a rush if you need it), but what you get is polished and accurate. The web interface is simple, with clear instructions and little room for user error. GoTranscript is a workhorse that consistently performs well for clients across multiple job categories, making it an Editors’ Choice winner for human-generated transcripts.
How much does GoTranscript cost?
If you’re not in a hurry, GoTranscript is the cheapest option on the human transcription market. GoTranscript only charges 90 cents per minute for a five-day turnaround time. Faster turnaround times are available for an additional fee. If you participate in the loyalty program, you will receive a discount on the transcription minute price – all you have to do is collect more transcription minutes. For example, if you have purchased 2,500 minutes of transcription services, you will receive a 5% discount on future services. The discount increases with usage, with the lowest possible rate being 77 cents per minute. It literally pays to stay loyal to GoTranscript.
In addition to the loyalty program, GoTranscript offers incremental discounts as the volume of transcription audio minutes increases, as well as a student discount.
Before you upload your audio file to be transcribed, GoTranscript gives you a menu of options such as: B. processing time and whether the finished file should contain time stamps. A price quote on the site changes in real time as you select options. You can also download a PDF of the price quote in case you need someone to do it for approval before paying for the work.
Compared to Rev’s human-made transcription services, which cost $1.50 per minute, GoTranscript is much cheaper. However, Rev offers automated transcription services for 25 cents per minute. Scribie has a similar price of 80 cents per minute for human transcription services, although its AI option is only 10 cents per minute. However, the cheap AI transcripts are always less accurate than the human-made ones.
If you rarely use transcription services, you should check out Otter.ai, which offers a free service tier for its AI services. You get 300 monthly transcription minutes; The free tier limits you to 30 minutes per recording.
Getting started with GoTranscript
Once you’ve uploaded an audio file for GoTranscript to transcribe and create an account, the process is fairly simple. An email will notify you when your transcript is ready, which can take five days or as little as six hours, depending on the options you selected before paying. Because GoTranscript only uses human transcribers, there’s no way to get your file in just a few minutes. If speed is your main concern, you should choose a service with an AI transcription option, e.g. B Rev
While GoTranscript has mobile apps for Android and iPhone, it’s essentially a file uploader that takes phone audio files and sends them to the GoTranscript website for transcription. The mobile app is not required and does not have many features. Everything else related to the service is on GoTranscript’s website, so there’s nothing to download or install. The site works well with the latest versions of the most popular browsers, the company says. I’ve tested it on Chrome, Edge, and Safari with no issues.
GoTranscript put to the test
To get a real sense of GoTranscript’s accuracy, I uploaded a file of an interview with my 10-year-old son. The transcript, as advertised, was almost entirely correct. For example, automated transcription services either butchered my child’s last name or left a blank space as if the word was unintelligible. GoTranscript spelled the name correctly – surprising given it’s not a common name – and had very few errors throughout.
The main benefit of manual transcription is the accuracy of grammar and punctuation that AI transcription doesn’t seem to understand yet. For example, the same audio file uploaded to Rev’s AI transcription service had unnatural sentence breaks and irregular capitalization. GoTranscript had none of these issues.
GoTranscript also has an advantage over other services because you can find transcriptionists who are knowledgeable in medical, academic, and legal terms. Because human transcribers can understand industry terminology, GoTranscript can ensure that the output is highly accurate. The company also supports transcription for 50 languages (listed a little later), far more than any other transcription service I’ve seen.
Edit and share transcripts with GoTranscript
Once your transcript is ready, you can edit the document directly on the GoTranscript website or download a Microsoft Word file. GoTranscript’s editing dashboard is both simple and functional. You move through the document by either scrolling through the text or advancing the audio playback at the top of the screen. Make sure you save often as there is no autosave. Because of this, I recommend downloading the document and editing it in your favorite Office app instead.
GoTranscript doesn’t offer a collaborative team space, but you do get sharing options. For example, you can generate multiple web links to embed or share your finished document. If a collaborative workspace is important to your team, Rev might be a better choice. The sharing features are straightforward and easy to use.
What languages does GoTranscript support?
As mentioned earlier, GoTranscript offers transcription services not only in English but also in other languages. They are Albanian, Arabic, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Kurdish, Kyrgyz, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Nepali, Norwegian, Pashto, Persian (Dari), Persian (Farsi), Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Shona, Slovak, Slovenian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tajik, Thai, Turkish, Turkmen, Ukrainian, Urdu, Uzbek and Vietnamese.
Is my data safe with GoTranscript?
GoTranscript markets its service as a great choice for medical and legal professionals because privacy and security are high on the company’s list of priorities. All GoTranscript employees sign a blanket Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that covers all files they work on. The company will also sign additional NDAs upon customer request. As an added layer of security, each audio file is cut into small chunks—roughly five to ten minutes—so that no transcriptionist has access to an entire conversation. Once a file is finished, they delete it.
“We transcribed documents for open criminal cases and highly sensitive medical records. You can trust our medical and legal transcription security, because as you can see, the security of your data is our priority,” says the GoTranscript confidentiality page.
Are there instances where GoTranscript might share your information? The team said there are some and want to be transparent with users. GoTranscript does not share or sell any data and will only share submitted user data where required to do so by law, e.g. B. by subpoena. There is also a possibility that GoTranscript will share data if it becomes part of the public domain.
If your primary concerns are privacy and security, TranscribeMe may be a better option for you. This company takes additional steps to notify you first if they receive a subpoena related to any of your files. The company also says it typically deletes user data after a year of inactivity, and all data moving through its HIPAA-compliant workflow is automatically deleted within 30 days of completion.
Should you choose GoTranscript?
GoTranscript is not a simple transcription service for casual users. The high volume discounts, human-made transcriptions, and experience with sensitive documents make GoTranscript a solid and reliable option for large companies and teams that deal with large amounts of audio data on a regular basis. The fact that the company has legally and medically savvy typists is an added bonus. The dozens of languages available for transcription also make GoTranscript a clear choice for international companies operating in different markets. For all of these reasons, it’s an Editors’ Choice winner.
If you rarely need a transcription service and accuracy is not the most important thing, there are many options. Our other choice of editor is Rev, which excels at its AI-generated transcripts with a fast turnaround time. But GoTranscript is the winning choice for people who are serious about transcription quality and accuracy.
