This Is Fred is launching a gender fluid collection with The Slate
The resort hotel The Slate has launched a gender fluid collection with the fashion label This Is Fred.
The Phuket-based resort has partnered with London-based label to produce gender-specific and urban clothing inspired by The Slate’s own architecture and design.
“I discovered Fred in Shoreditch, a very creative and artistic neighborhood in East London that has unique vintage shops and independent fashion labels,” said Krystal Prakaikaew Na-Ranong, co-founder and owner of The Slate. “Its geometric cut and shape, the use of materials and the brand’s gender-specific fluidity immediately reminded me of The Slate.”
The collection, which is based on the aesthetics of monochrome accents and the combination of hard and soft silhouettes by the architect Bill Bensley of The Slate, includes pants, tops, ponchos and jackets. Certain hand-sewn items have black and white stripes and appear when the fabric moves.
The collection is sold at Shades, The Slate’s gallery space, and is the first time a This Is Fred collection has been available in Thailand. The pieces will also be available for sale at The Stockroom, The Slate’s online retail store.
The Slate is known for its artistic and unique collaborations. It previously featured works by young artists from Central Saint Martins during its Artists in Residence program and hosted Thailand’s famous Sak Yant tattooists for a three-month residency that gave guests the chance to get their own traditional tattoos.
“This Is Fred has a similar brand philosophy to The Slate. Our brands have an avant-garde approach and a very bold mindset, ”said Na-Ranong.
