Wednesday’s Covid update: 141 deaths and 11,252 new cases
Today 11,252 new Covid-19 cases and 141 coronavirus-related deaths were reported by the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration. Since April, during the worst virus wave in Thailand, 1,482,494 people have tested positive for Covid-19.
In the 24 hours since the last count, the CCSA has recorded 13,695 recoveries. 129,071 people are currently being treated for Covid-19.
Of the new cases reported today, 1,391 were found through proactive case detection and a significant decrease of 28 infections was found in correctional facilities. Thailand’s prisons and detention centers have reported Covid-19 infections on a daily basis, with more than 67,000 inmates now infected, according to the Thai Ministry of Justice.

- The Thai cabinet is drafting a new disease control law that is intended to replace the emergency ordinance that was imposed at the beginning of the pandemic last year and has been extended several times. The decree is due to expire this month.
- According to the Thai government’s news bureau, the Ministry of Interior has issued an urgent order to local authorities asking them to start vaccinating their student population by the end of the month. The Pfizer vaccine is available for adolescents aged 12 to 18 years.
